You have a good point. Also awkward is the new logo showing Oscar inside of the Letter A. Some forms of it greatly resemble the mens restroom logo. The old one represented cinematic closure.

I lost hope in award shows when it took farrr too long for DiCaprio to get one and ik that’s cliche but it’s the truth. Nobody is quite as versatile and dedicated to their role where they embody and aren’t acting but BECOME the character like he does. He’s been acting since he was a kid and yet he only has ONE to his name...? A disgrace honestly

when my favourite band (Justice) won electronic album of the year at the Grammys in 2019, their award wasn't even part of the televised portion of the Grammys. I was able to find a high-quality cut of their acceptance speech after the fact, but I didn't even bother to watch the hours-long televised portion (we still had cable at the time) because it wasn't worth it to me

The moonlight debacle was a setup. They even made the director share his Variety cover with the director of lala land when in the past only the BP director had the cover.

Harvey Weinstein was also one of the first guys who really focused a lot of his energy on awards shows for his studio. He realized that if you can schmooze to win awards, then you could easily rack up a lot of wins for your studio by buying the right content and schmoozing in the right way. He also realized what you described-using the massively recognized prestige of the Oscars and other awards as a marketing strategy for your films. So you can thank Harvey Weinstein for creating the modern corruption we witness at these events. They were always corrupt but he was one of the first of the modern era to really milk it for all its worth.

imo the independent spirit awards are the best awards cuz its on the beach in the afternoon and everyones a bit drunk and no ones dressed up

There will never be a more entertaining awardshow moment then when the icon, the legend Marcel Reich-Ranicki refused the lifetime award at the 'german televisionawards' and proceeded to drag the entire german television industry and roasted every single person at the awards. The problem with the kid’s choice awards now is that no one really that notable attends them anymore. Back in the day like Katy Perry would go, Will Ferrell, Gwen Stefani, etc etc. Now it’s just tik tokers and people who I’m not even sure some kids exactly know

My old high school drama teacher was a judge for one of the movie awards shows. She said that if she let us see who was nominated or if she let us see the film they sent her, she would be kicked out of the judging group.

When the American voting system was established, there was the debate between only the uppity folks voting or everyone voting, the same thing is happening here. Now we have the electoral college as a compromise. I think an equivalent of an electoral college in award show voting would be a nice solution (don’t get me wrong, the actual electoral college sucks and has actual important consequences, unlike at these award shows)

I liked the voting the kids choice awards had. Like someone else picks the nominees and we all voted for it like that entertained the fuck out of little baby 8 year old me. Like i used to get excited for the awards cause “oh my god i gotta vote rn” and all my friends would be like “what movie did you vote for i voted for this” and i just remember it being so exciting. And the ads for it were exciting. It was just exciting. Nothing is exciting ab any other award show. It just exists and its like theres no fun to it, i can just google the results tomorrow instead of wasting like 2 hours of my time i can use to watch funny tik toks or something
