I don't understand how leaving the slabs stacked doesn't make the blade bind on later cuts.

Is it better to have all that weight on the blade? Why don't you take the layers off after the cut is what I'm getting too?

Awesome ! Great all the way around !! Only constructive thing I could add, You need a 5 lb short(20-26") handled rafting ax at the mill. Instead of the sledge. I use a 28 oz Rig Builders ax. When sawing with my band mill. My mill is only a 24" tho. Really enjoyed this and the previous vid on the take down / loading and off loading of the log. ! Really good work. Really like your skid steer also. Your mill is nice and quiet with the electric motor !

Isn't these defects being done to the wood because of the weight from slabs not being removed between cuttings which I think causes the blade to have to work harder🤔; henceforth, the reason for the blade getting stuck so often and needing to be replaced so often also??🤭

Since you had a look at the first log - straight, clear and a little figure, I would have quartered this one but since you can't be bothered with quartering and only like crotch and wide slabs....Disappointed that you didn't quarter, seems a waste of beautiful wood.

The trailer is very cool Matt. You always amaze me in that you are willing to tackle any project, wood working or otherwise! Do you come across walnut or Black Walnut very often? And do you sell wood out of state? I am looking for some nice walnut to make some burial flag boxes. My father recently passed and he was in the Marine Corp and the Army. My siblings and I each want a flag box but they want me to keep the actual burial flag as I was also in the Army, as was my wife and my son. I am looking for walnut with good figure to it. Walnut was his favorite wood. If you don’t sell wood where would be a good source to find some? Thanks for your time and any assistance/Information you can provide. Happy Holidays to you and yours Matt. Stay safe! Ron

Wow, this is ultimate woodworking!I can only dream of having a spacious enough space out in the country like that to have that much fun! I could peacefully retire having joy making stuff out of wood like that. Like one man’s trash being another man’s treasure, we see wood the same way! An old piece of tree is somebody’s new spice rack, pencil holder, or something else wonderfully natural. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed! (Do get worried about you and that blade cutting the blue stain. I think I would have removed the top cuts to see what’s there. Oh, love your cutting trailer!

15:00 Put wheels on the sides of the stands toward the bottom (but just off the ground). So that when in use, the wheels are simply sticking out to one side and not supporting the stand. Then you can pull the top of the stand and shift the weight onto the wheels when you want to move the stand - you can roll the stands where you want them.

Finally, I would suggest you figure out a way to stop the saw if your kids come outside and are running. Kids do not have a built in sense of danger, and it would give you a way to shut it down quickly if they suddenly appear

A second thought for an enhancement is a rail maintenance area so you can move the top off of the bottom. This would allow you to experiment with hydraulics on the bottom platform Without worrying about the upper saw part, or repainting the bottom half. Sort of formalizing what you did when you separated them earlier, but more useful and functional when you are by your self.

I thought of an enhancement to your sawmill. I would suggest the addition of limit switches for the up down motion, because you seem to like to share the operation of the mill with others. It is like the clamps, for the end, it stops the motor when it gets to the top or bottom.

Thanks Zack! A characteristic of sawblades is set: how much the teeth protrude past the blade's body. This allow the teeth to clear a wider path than the thickness of the body supporting them. The blade is essentially floating in the kerf as it travels through the log.
