I don’t know what the verdict will be but I do think they were abusive to each other. It sounds like one of them was bound to murder the other. And just because someone has sexual trauma in their past, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t look up violent sex things. It can be a coping mechanism for some people. Also if he was abusive to her, she very well could’ve went tracking him down because that’s all she knew. I think they were both abusive though and I think it was murder. I think guns in the house with this relationship was just not a good choice.

I agree with what the jury decided. She killed him, but there isn’t enough concrete solid evidence to convict her. Our system is innocent until proven guilty, so their decision seems to be in that vein. Because they couldn’t prove her guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt they had to say ‘not guilty’ unfortunately. Now, regarding the couple both were terrible people and you can’t ignore his threatening messages just because he’s the one who got shot.

I'm saddened by the verdict but not surprised. Reasonable doubt is tough, and the Prosecutor didn't prove it. But, Mary Kate has a LOT of issues. She got away with it, and I hope anyone who dates her sleeps with one eye open. Her problems didn't go away, they are there, and i hope she's getting counseling, but God help anyone who gets in a relationship with her.. she's dangerous!!!

My roommate went to school with mk and when she told me about this, it pointed straight to her in my head. She is known to be crazy and has recently been found on tik toc dancing to the song “carol baskin, killed her her husband...” you know the song. Laughing and everyone blew up on her. She’s had to move to another state because everyone knows she did it

It was probably a question of who would be the first to shoot the other. The confession would still have been thrown out because of duress due to the police officers technique of shouting and being aggressive. The EMTs were very crucial in destroying this case by moving the weapon. Also if he was so abusive to her she would be afraid to confront him in public because of potential further abuse at home later. They just got together as a couple too young and were not mature enough to learn how to resolve issues with each other or to know how to mutually end the toxic relationship. I’m just glad there were no children involved. In my personal opinion, she got away with manslaughter, but there was not enough legal evidence for conviction due to gross negligence by supposedly trained individuals. My son, for four years, was in a toxic relationship a lot like this with his girlfriend and I am so thankful that he ended it before she did something like this to him. Because the way it was going, it was just a matter of time. Although she was tinier and he’s a big guy she just had a way of manipulating and harming him physically and emotionally.

At the very least there was enough evidence for involuntary manslaughter. There should be some consequences for her actions. She sought him at that night, forced a confrontation that resulted in him losing his life. I'm not sure exactly what she's guilty of but she's far from innocent.

There’s no proof that he sent all those nasty messages to her. She easily could have sent them to herself from his phone. He may have hit and hollered but I feel that she was toxic for years before and he broke. Funny she didn’t have not one photo of her “bruises”. She also lied about him plunging at her when and she just happened to have a gun pointing at him, yet the police said he was sitting on the corner of the bed and fell back. No doubt there was a big fight going on but she deliberately shot him. In my opinion.

I think she may be guilty but the text messages he sent would be enough for me to have reasonable doubt. As to you said if they had processed the crime scene correctly and had the taped confession it may have been enough to over come the text messages but without the other evidence I would have to err on the side of caution and aquit her.

I've been in an abusive relationship where my ex would claim that I was crazy however, he was extremely verbally and physically abusive towards me. It literally made me crazy and I ended up starting to physically defend myself before he would have a chance to hit me. I ended up living in my truck after I hit him for the first time because I knew that our relationship was toxic and that one of us would end up dying if someone didn't end it. understand where she is coming from if her abuse is true. But I think that a gun is extreme and you know what happens when you shoot someone. So I believe she is still guilty regardless.

This whole story reeks of victim blaming. The whole "you wouldn't track down your abuser" part really bothers me. How many women get into abusive, toxic relationships? A LOT. I know one. And guess what? He beats the crap out of her all the time, but because they have a TRAUMA BOND she is desperately attached to him. They get addicted to the highs that come after the lows. It's literally like a drug addiction. I actually kind of believe her and feel like it's possible she lied in the beginning because she didn't want to get in trouble. You justifying his horribly abusive words as "people say stuff when they're angry sometimes". I really thought you were better than that. Wow, super disappointed that you are justifying abuse.

The audio file was corrupted now I absolutely do not believe the place they do shit like that all the time when they don’t have enough evidence to convict just make shit up and send innocent people to jail. What’s more likely happened was yeah she was yelling and her boyfriend with a gun and maybe accidentally shot him. But that hesitation in knowing she was going to kill him and accidentally killing him is the difference between manslaughter and first degree.

the problem is the DA decided to charge her with murder instead of manslaughter. had they charged her with manslaughter, she would have gone to prison for she confessed on 911 tape that she shot him. Yes, she killed him. Yes it was a toxic and abusive relationship. And frankly, it could have been an accident. It's possible that she expected it to go like before when she threatened him but this time she squeezed the trigger instead. That can happen to the most well trained marksman in any heat of the moment. It's also possible she was going to threaten to kill herself when she loaded it. It was not self defense but they didn't charge her correctly either.

I don't understand the verdict. No matter why she did it, she still took someone's life just because she was angry. She should have went to jail for some time, at least. You can defend yourself without killing someone, and someone as experienced in guns as her should have known what to do not to kill him. On and Off again relationships NEVER work. It looks like they had a toxic relationship and it looks like it was a matter of time before one of them killed the other. This case is one of the most confusing cases ever. At the beginning i thought she was definitely guilty but the messages are what really changed my mind. They were definitely toxic with each other and there is a possibility that her stories and accusations are correct. I personally believe that he was also pretty bad but i think she shot him out of anger, and then was confused so she said it was an accident. Then she realized that her defense was weak so she changed her story to a self defense case. I don't think there was enough evidence but i do think she was guilty. But if she wasn't and she was found guilty by the jury, that would have been devastating so im still confused. I wish there was more evidence pointing to one way where we could know what actually happened.

Aside from all of it, glocks are know for locking up due to “limp wrist”. If you’ve ever shot a glock, you’d know that MOST require a pretty tight grip on the firearm for the round to actually fully fire and eject. (Only know this because I have a sever case of limp wrist lol) so if she shot him with a glock, it didn’t “accidentally go off” soo she shot him either way. Self defense or rage she shot him and theres not enough evidence to prove self defense. He didn’t deserve to die but I have been the “crazy girlfriend” in a toxic relationship and it is SO extremely difficult to get out of. I wish it would’ve ended differently for the two of them.

First - this happened right down the road from me, not more than 30 mins from where I live which is crazy to me. But I believe they truly were both toxic. I highly doubt that his friends even if they did know would mention he was abusive. The south is full of the “good ole boy system” and they probably would have kept mum no matter what. Do I think MK is innocent? No. But I think she was severely abused and they both were grasping onto a burning rope of a relationship. Very very sad situation.

I don't think it was premeditated. I believe it was in the heat of the moment. But yes she shot him. I think the jury could have done better, the first responders could have done better and the interrogation could have been better.
