actually, when the first few cells entered the earth's atmosphere, they were photosynthesising which means they consume CO2 and give out O2. when oxygen concentrations were too high it became toxic, which through evolution resulted in cells that respire aerobically

The mushrooms of fleebleoot aren't actuall mushrooms. It's not earth so they aren't mushrooms. We can't compare earth and fleebleoot mushrooms. So as far as we know the don't work like our mushrooms.
